How Amreen Iqbal Is Giving Women’s Stories a Bigger Voice

Amreen Iqbal is creating a platform where women can share their experiences, achievements, and stories with a wider audience.

A name set in gold. A child’s initial traced in diamonds. A symbol of heritage worn close to the skin.

For Dubai-based entrepreneur Amreen Iqbal, jewellery can be much more than something beautiful to wear. It can become a personal record of who a woman is, where she comes from and the moments that have shaped her life.

As the founder and creative director of homegrown fine-jewellery brand Piece of You, Iqbal has built her business around that idea. Her designs are created for women who want the pieces they wear to carry meaning beyond their material value.

Turning Personal Stories Into Jewellery

Iqbal launched Piece of You in 2017 with a simple proposition: jewellery should tell the wearer’s story.

Names, initials, children, family ties, heritage, relationships and important milestones all become sources of inspiration for her designs. Rather than treating jewellery purely as an accessory, she sees each commission as an opportunity to capture a personal experience in a physical form.

“This is really the soul of Piece of You,” Iqbal says. “I want every piece to mean something.”

She describes herself as a “storyteller through gold and diamonds”, a phrase that reflects the philosophy behind the brand. While aesthetics remain an important part of the design process, the emotional meaning behind a piece ultimately determines what it becomes.

For Iqbal, the strongest jewellery is not simply admired. It is remembered.

“Ultimately, that is what Piece of You is,” she says. “Your story, made wearable.”

Why Dubai Became Part of the Story

Dubai has played an important role in Iqbal’s entrepreneurial journey. The city provided not only a commercial base for Piece of You, but also access to a diverse and international customer audience.

Iqbal believes Dubai’s multicultural environment allowed her to meet women from different backgrounds and understand the many ways people connect identity, family and heritage with jewellery.

“Dubai gives entrepreneurs the confidence to dream big,” she says. “It is a city that celebrates ambition, innovation, and homegrown businesses, while giving us access to an incredibly diverse and sophisticated customer base.”

The city’s long relationship with gold and jewellery has also given Piece of You a natural setting in which to grow. For Iqbal, however, the deeper connection comes from the people behind the jewellery and the stories they bring with them.

“There is something very powerful about building a fine-jewellery brand in a city so deeply connected to gold and jewellery,” she says.

A Business Built Around Women’s Experiences

Piece of You also reflects a broader belief Iqbal has about women and entrepreneurship.

As the UAE marks Emirati Women’s Day, she sees the occasion as a recognition of the increasing opportunities available to women to build companies, shape industries and contribute to the country’s economy.

“The change has been extraordinary,” she says. “Today, women in the UAE are encouraged to lead, create, and build.”

Growing up as an Emirati woman, Iqbal says she has seen a consistent message from the country’s leadership that women have an important role to play in shaping the nation’s future.

She points to greater access to education, entrepreneurship programmes, funding, mentorship and leadership opportunities as important elements of that progress. Just as significant, she believes, is the growing presence of women-owned businesses within the UAE’s economic landscape.

For Iqbal, representation has a practical impact.

“That representation gives the next generation permission to think even bigger,” she says.

Why Mentorship Still Matters

Building a business, particularly in its early stages, can involve long periods of uncertainty. Iqbal believes that financial support is important, but so are professional relationships, mentorship, collaboration and simple encouragement.

A founder may have a strong idea but still need someone willing to take that idea seriously before others do.

“Sometimes what an entrepreneur needs most is someone who genuinely believes her idea can become something significant,” she says.

That belief, according to Iqbal, can make a difference in whether an idea remains an idea or develops into a sustainable business.

Her own experience with Piece of You has reinforced that view. The company began with a focused concept around meaningful jewellery and has grown within an environment where Dubai’s entrepreneurial culture, international customer base and established jewellery industry could support the brand’s development.

Giving Meaning a Place in Business

At its heart, Piece of You is built on a straightforward idea: personal stories have value, and businesses can create products around those stories without losing their emotional significance.

For Iqbal, that means a bracelet, pendant, ring or necklace can represent far more than gold or diamonds. It can mark a birth, honour a family connection, preserve a piece of heritage or celebrate a milestone.

Her approach to entrepreneurship extends beyond jewellery itself. Through her work and views on mentorship and representation, Iqbal is also advocating for a business environment in which more women feel confident enough to turn their ideas into companies.

“Small ideas can become powerful businesses when they are given the environment to grow,” she says.

For Amreen Iqbal, that environment is Dubai. And the stories at its centre are those of the women she designs for.
