The health-tech startup has ceased operations, with its founder saying the business may have entered the market before the timing was right.

The startup’s founder says Medial may have entered the market too early as the professional networking platform begins winding down operations.

Bengaluru: Medial, the professional networking platform that gained attention through Shark Tank India, has begun shutting down its operations, with founder and CEO Niket Raj Dwivedi saying the startup may have been ahead of its time.

Announcing the decision in a LinkedIn post on July 14, Dwivedi described the closure as one of the most difficult moments in the company’s journey.

“Our aim with Medial was to create a home for the startup ecosystem on the internet,” he wrote, explaining that the platform was built to connect founders, employees, investors, and aspiring entrepreneurs while making startup knowledge more accessible beyond India’s major cities.

He added that geography should never limit access to opportunities or information.

Founder Says Timing May Have Been the Biggest Challenge

Reflecting on the company’s journey, Dwivedi suggested that market timing played a significant role in the outcome.

“We might not have timed it well,” he wrote.

Despite the shutdown, he expressed gratitude to Medial’s employees, investors, and community members who supported the platform throughout its growth.

Dwivedi also made it clear that the closure would not end his entrepreneurial journey.

“I’m sure some ambitious kid somewhere will dream of the same thesis again and do it better than us. I have been building startups for the last 10 years; win or lose, I’ll continue with the same passion. I don’t know what exactly is next for me, but more on that soon,” he said.

Built to Serve India’s Startup Community

Founded in 2023 by Niket Raj Dwivedi, Aishwarya Raj Pandey, Harsh Dwivedi, and Prateek Kaien, Medial positioned itself as a content and community platform for founders, investors, startup professionals, and technology enthusiasts.

The platform combined startup news, professional discussions, career insights, workplace conversations, and community engagement into a single ecosystem designed for the startup world.

According to Dwivedi, Medial grew to more than 500,000 users across over 30 countries during its relatively short journey.

Raised Funding After Shark Tank India Appearance

In December 2024, Medial secured $500,000 in a pre-Series A funding round led by Ortella Global Capital, the investment firm co-founded by entrepreneur Rajvardhan Mohite and former IFC executive Sayan Ghosh.

The funding was intended to support the platform’s expansion and strengthen its position within India’s growing startup ecosystem.

Although Medial is winding down, Dwivedi’s message reflected optimism about entrepreneurship, suggesting that the idea behind the platform may eventually succeed in a different form and at a different time.
