The electric trucks will be used across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha.
UltraTech Cement is stepping up the electrification of its logistics operations, with plans to deploy more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks across seven Indian states by December 2026.
The Aditya Birla Group company expects the new fleet to transport around five million metric tonnes of clinker and other key materials each year. Once fully operational, the trucks are projected to reduce net annual carbon dioxide emissions by more than 1,17,000 tonnes and displace the equivalent of around 39 million litres of diesel consumption every year.
The expansion is part of UltraTech’s broader effort to reduce emissions across its supply chain, rather than limiting its sustainability initiatives to cement manufacturing facilities.
UltraTech Signs Contracts With EV Manufacturers
UltraTech has entered into service contracts for the planned fleet with electric commercial vehicle manufacturers including Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, IPLTech, Energy in Motion and Sany. The programme also involves their subsidiaries and third-party logistics providers.
The 600-plus electric trucks will be deployed across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha. They will be used for the movement of clinker and other materials within UltraTech’s supply chain.
K C Jhanwar, managing director of UltraTech Cement, said the company’s sustainability efforts are extending beyond its manufacturing plants into logistics. The shift to electric heavy-duty vehicles is expected to support the company’s decarbonisation efforts and its Net Zero commitment.
Electric Trucks to Support Long-Haul Cement Logistics
Moving heavy materials over long distances is a significant part of the cement industry’s logistics requirements. UltraTech has therefore been focusing on electrification in areas such as mine-to-plant movement and the transportation of clinker between plants.
The company said its logistics electrification strategy covers its wider supply chain, with the new fleet expected to handle a substantial volume of material movement each year. UltraTech currently has a grey cement capacity of more than 200 MTPA in India, making its logistics network one of the country’s largest and most complex in the sector.
The company had already begun moving towards lower-emission transportation before the latest announcement. UltraTech introduced CNG trucks in 2021 and began deploying electric trucks in 2024.
It says it was also the first cement company in India to deploy heavy-duty electric trucks for long-haul transportation of clinker and other materials at scale.
UltraTech’s Green Logistics Fleet Crosses 850 Trucks
With the latest additions, UltraTech is continuing to expand a green logistics fleet that already includes both CNG and electric vehicles.
The company currently operates more than 850 trucks as part of its green logistics operations. Its electrification programme is being applied across multiple stages of the supply chain, including the movement of materials from mines to plants and the transportation of clinker between manufacturing facilities.
UltraTech’s wider decarbonisation strategy also includes renewable energy and energy-efficiency initiatives. In the first quarter of FY27, the company commissioned 20 MW of additional Waste Heat Recovery System capacity, taking its total WHRS capacity to 434 MW. It also had 1.4 GW of renewable energy capacity and reported a 47% green power mix at the end of the quarter.
A Larger Push to Cut Supply Chain Emissions
The move towards electric trucks comes as UltraTech expands its manufacturing footprint and the scale of its logistics operations. The company crossed 200.1 MTPA of grey cement capacity in India in April 2026, while its global capacity, including international operations, reached 205.5 MTPA.
For a cement producer of this scale, reducing emissions from transportation can complement efforts already being made inside manufacturing plants. UltraTech’s latest electric truck programme therefore represents a significant shift in how the company is approaching emissions from the movement of raw materials and finished products.
The planned deployment of more than 600 heavy-duty electric trucks will add another major component to that strategy, while helping replace diesel-powered transport with electric vehicles across key industrial corridors in India.
