The 19-year-old entrepreneur secured $10 million for his AI startup after facing rejection from 15 universities, putting his business ambitions in the spotlight.
At 19, entrepreneur Zach Yadegari has raised $10 million for his latest venture, Persona, an artificial intelligence startup developing a personal assistant designed to simplify everyday tasks.
The funding marks a new chapter for Yadegari, who previously co-founded Cal AI, a calorie-tracking app that allows users to estimate the nutritional content of meals by uploading photographs. The app gained traction before MyFitnessPal acquired it in March 2026.
Yadegari’s entrepreneurial journey has attracted attention partly because of his experience with university admissions. In 2025, he revealed that 15 of the 18 universities he applied to had rejected his applications, despite his academic record and business achievements.
From College Rejections to Startup Success
Yadegari continued pursuing his business ambitions despite the admissions setbacks. His experience with Cal AI gave him an opportunity to build a consumer-focused technology product around a simple idea: making calorie tracking easier through image recognition rather than requiring users to enter every food item manually.
The venture helped establish his credentials as a young entrepreneur and provided a foundation for his next project.
With Persona, Yadegari is now targeting a broader range of everyday activities through artificial intelligence.
Persona Aims to Build a Personal AI Assistant
Persona is developing an AI assistant intended to help users take notes, answer questions, manage emails, arrange travel, and access services.
The goal is to bring several everyday digital tasks into a connected experience, reducing the need to switch between multiple applications.
The company is also working on a wearable device that would allow users to access the assistant without relying solely on a smartphone. According to the product description, users would activate the device with a button or wrist movement rather than having it continuously listen to its surroundings.
Persona has introduced an early version of its assistant that users can access through iMessage while the company continues developing its broader product offering.
$10 Million Funding to Support Persona’s Growth
The $10 million funding round was led by Vine Ventures, with participation from other investors. The company plans to use the capital to develop Persona’s capabilities and expand its product offering.
The investment gives Yadegari another opportunity to build a technology business after his earlier experience with Cal AI.
However, the startup’s long-term prospects will depend on whether it can turn its vision into a useful, reliable product that people regularly use. It will also need to demonstrate how its assistant stands apart from the growing range of AI tools competing for consumers’ attention.
For Yadegari, Persona represents a shift from a specialised calorie-tracking application to a broader vision of how people might interact with artificial intelligence in their daily lives.
