The partnership will focus on developing defence drones, unmanned systems, and advanced technologies for India’s defence sector.

India’s defense technology ecosystem continues to gain momentum as Garuda Aerospace, the drone startup backed by former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni, has entered into a strategic partnership with Micron Instruments Pvt. Ltd., a long-established manufacturer of precision fuzes, defense ammunition systems, and critical military components.

The collaboration brings together two Indian companies with complementary capabilities to develop next-generation indigenous defense technologies, reinforcing the country’s broader push toward self-reliance in defense manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Combining Drone Technology With Precision Defense Engineering

The partnership was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), under which both companies will collaborate on product development, technology integration, and defense-focused projects.

Garuda Aerospace will contribute its expertise in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous flight systems, and drone platforms, while Micron Instruments will provide decades of experience in precision-engineered fuzes, ammunition systems, and mission-critical defense components.

Together, the companies aim to develop advanced indigenous solutions, including loitering munitions, payload-enabled UAVs, and next-generation unmanned defense systems designed to meet the evolving operational requirements of India’s armed forces.

Strengthening India’s Indigenous Defense Ecosystem

Founded in 2015 by Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Chennai-based Garuda Aerospace has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing drone companies. The startup manufactures drones for agriculture, surveillance, infrastructure inspection, industrial applications, and defense, and has built a nationwide network of drone pilots and service centers.

The company has attracted significant attention since MS Dhoni became both an investor and brand ambassador, helping increase its visibility ahead of its planned public listing. Garuda has also received approval under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Drones, positioning it among India’s leading domestic drone manufacturers.

Micron Instruments, meanwhile, brings over 60 years of engineering expertise across the defense, aerospace, and healthcare sectors. The company specializes in precision fuzes, ammunition components, and highly engineered defense systems that require stringent quality and reliability standards.

Focus on Next-Generation Military Platforms

One of the primary objectives of the collaboration is the development of advanced unmanned defense platforms capable of supporting modern military operations.

Among the technologies expected to receive priority are loitering munitions, often referred to as “kamikaze drones,” which combine surveillance and precision strike capabilities. The companies also plan to work on payload-integrated UAVs and other autonomous defense systems that can support intelligence gathering, reconnaissance, surveillance, and tactical missions.

By combining precision engineering with drone technology, the partnership seeks to reduce dependence on imported defense equipment while expanding India’s domestic capabilities in high-value military technologies.

Leadership Perspective

Commenting on the partnership, Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO of Garuda Aerospace, said the collaboration represents an important step toward building advanced indigenous defense solutions.

“We are proud to partner with Micron Instruments, a company that has consistently set benchmarks in precision engineering and defence manufacturing. This collaboration brings together the strengths of two advanced manufacturing organizations. It opens new opportunities in defence drones, loitering munitions, and next-generation unmanned systems, supporting India’s journey towards technological self-reliance.”

Vikram Sahgal, Chairman and Managing Director of Micron Instruments, emphasized that future defense capabilities will increasingly depend on innovation, indigenous manufacturing, and strategic industrial partnerships.

“Micron Instruments has spent over six decades developing critical engineering solutions for Defence, Aerospace, and Healthcare Industries. The future of defence will be driven by innovation, strong indigenous capabilities, and strategic partnerships. Our association with Garuda Aerospace reflects a shared commitment to developing advanced, homegrown solutions that strengthen India’s defence ecosystem and support the country’s vision of self-reliance.”

A Growing Opportunity for India’s Defense Industry

India has significantly increased its focus on domestic defense manufacturing over the past few years, encouraging private companies to develop advanced technologies across drones, aerospace, missiles, electronic warfare, and autonomous systems. Government initiatives, including the Drone Rules 2021, the Drone PLI Scheme, and rising defense procurement budgets, have created new opportunities for Indian startups and manufacturers to participate in the country’s defense modernization.

For Garuda Aerospace, the partnership expands its presence in the rapidly growing defense segment while strengthening its technology portfolio ahead of its anticipated IPO. For Micron Instruments, the collaboration extends decades of engineering expertise into the emerging field of autonomous military platforms.

As warfare increasingly shifts toward unmanned and intelligent systems, partnerships like this highlight how Indian companies are combining specialized capabilities to build indigenous technologies that could play an increasingly important role in the country’s future defense preparedness.
