Adani tops the Hurun India Rich List 2026, with Mukesh Ambani and family ranking second at ₹863 billion.

Gautam Adani and his family have reclaimed the top position on the Hurun India Rich List 2026, with combined wealth of ₹922 billion (₹9.22 lakh crore).

Adani has moved ahead of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his family, whose wealth stands at ₹863 billion (₹8.63 lakh crore), according to the ranking released on Wednesday.

Adani, whose business interests span energy and infrastructure, is based in Ahmedabad. Ambani, whose Reliance Industries is headquartered in Mumbai, ranks second.

The latest ranking marks a reversal from last year, when Ambani held the top position.

  2. Mukesh Ambani and family: ₹863 billion
  3. Lakshmi Niwas Mittal and family: ₹339 billion
  4. Cyrus S Poonawalla and family: ₹303 billion

  8. Azim Premji and family: ₹263 billion
  9. Anil Agarwal and family: ₹208 billion
  10. Samir Mehta and family: ₹189 billion

Lakshmi Niwas Mittal, whose principal business is ArcelorMittal, takes third place with family wealth of ₹339 billion.

Cyrus S Poonawalla and his family, associated with the Serum Institute of India, rank fourth at ₹303 billion.

HCL’s Roshni Nadar Malhotra and family are fifth with ₹278 billion, followed by Kumar Mangalam Birla and family of the Aditya Birla Group at ₹269 billion.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries’ Dilip Shanghvi ranks seventh with ₹265 billion, while Wipro founder Azim Premji and family are eighth at ₹263 billion.

Vedanta Resources’ Anil Agarwal and family rank ninth with ₹208 billion. Samir Mehta and family of Torrent Pharmaceuticals complete the top 10 with ₹189 billion.

Other prominent names on the list

The Hurun ranking also features several prominent Indian business leaders outside the top 10.

Uday Kotak of Kotak Mahindra Bank ranks 15th with wealth of ₹118 billion, while Rajiv Singh and family of DLF rank 19th with ₹110 billion.

Other notable names include Bharti Airtel founder Sunil Mittal and family, TVS Motor’s Venu Srinivasan, Asian Paints’ Ina Ashwin Dani and family, Zoho’s Radha Vembu and Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath.

Adani overtakes Ambani after one year.

The latest ranking represents a significant shift from the 2025 Hurun India Rich List.

Ambani and his family topped last year’s list with wealth of ₹955 billion, while Adani and his family ranked second with ₹815 billion.

In the 2026 ranking, Adani’s family wealth has risen to ₹922 billion, while Ambani’s stands at ₹863 billion.

That puts Adani ₹59 billion, or ₹5,900 crore, ahead of Ambani in the latest Hurun ranking.

The change highlights the continuing movement at the top of India’s wealth rankings as the fortunes of major business groups fluctuate with changes in their underlying businesses and market valuations.
