The new feature allows users to file income tax and GST returns directly through the PhonePe app, expanding its financial services ecosystem.

The new feature enables users to file income tax and GST returns directly through the PhonePe app, further expanding the platform’s financial services ecosystem.

Bengaluru: PhonePe has launched a new in-app tax filing feature that allows users to file their Income Tax Returns (ITR) and manage GST returns directly from the PhonePe app, eliminating the need to visit separate tax filing websites or portals.

Developed in partnership with digital tax compliance platform TaxBuddy, the feature is designed to simplify tax filing for salaried individuals, professionals, and small business owners by bringing tax compliance into the same platform they already use for payments and financial services.

Self-Filing and Expert-Assisted Tax Support

The new service offers multiple filing options based on users’ requirements.

Individuals can choose self-filing plans starting at Rs 24, while those with more complex tax situations can opt for expert-assisted filing. The platform also provides monthly GST filing support for merchants and small businesses looking to manage their tax compliance more efficiently.

PhonePe said the integration aims to make tax filing more accessible by combining affordability with professional guidance.

Designed for Individuals and Small Businesses

In addition to filing tax returns, the feature includes access to tax experts who can help users optimize their ITR submissions and provide ongoing GST compliance support.

By integrating these services into its existing ecosystem, PhonePe hopes to reduce the complexity of tax filing while improving convenience for its growing user base.

PhonePe Expands Its Financial Services Ecosystem

Commenting on the launch, Niharika Saigal, Head of In-App Categories at PhonePe, said the company continues to focus on building a seamless financial ecosystem for its users.

“At PhonePe, we are committed to building a frictionless financial ecosystem that addresses the core utility needs of our users. By democratizing access to expert tax advice and affordable filing solutions, we aim to empower our users, from salaried professionals to neighborhood merchants, to manage their tax filing with ease and confidence,” she said.

Srinivas Reddy, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of TaxBuddy, said the partnership aligns with the company’s goal of making tax guidance more accessible across India.

“We are pleased to partner with PhonePe to bring our AI-driven, expert-assisted tax services to users across India. This integration is aligned with our goal of making quality tax guidance and filing support accessible at scale,” he said.

How to Access PhonePe’s Tax Filing Feature

Users can access the service directly within the PhonePe app by following these steps:

  • Open the PhonePe app and navigate to the Recharge & Pay Bills section.
  • Under Utilities and Others, tap File ITR.
  • Choose between self-filing, expert-assisted filing, or monthly GST filing to begin the process.

Beyond Digital Payments

The latest launch further expands PhonePe’s portfolio beyond digital payments.

The company already offers services across lending, insurance distribution, stock broking and mutual fund investments through Share. Market, along with the Indus Appstore, its Android-based app marketplace.

With the addition of in-app tax filing, PhonePe continues to position itself as a comprehensive financial services platform for consumers and businesses alike.
