Savitri Jindal’s story brings together family values, business leadership and philanthropy, reflecting the principles that guide her work and public life.
NEW DELHI: For Savitri Jindal, business success has always been closely linked to family values, employee welfare, and service to society. After the sudden death of her husband, industrialist Om Prakash Jindal, in 2005, she stepped into a leadership role in the family business while continuing his emphasis on education, healthcare, and community development.
Today, she is recognized as a senior figure in the O.P. Jindal Group’s legacy and serves as president of Maharaja Agrasen Medical Education and Scientific Research Society in Agroha, Haryana. The institution was established to expand access to medical education and healthcare for people in Haryana and neighboring states.
Her story also reflects the evolution of a family business founded by Om Prakash Jindal into a group of separately operated companies spanning steel and other industrial sectors. As the family businesses continue to expand, Savitri Jindal’s public work remains closely associated with education, healthcare, and social welfare.
From Managing a Household to Leading a Business
In an interview with AsiaOne Magazine, Savitri Jindal described how her responsibilities changed after her husband’s death.
“I was taking care of the house, but after the sudden demise of Jindal Sahib, I had to come forward to handle the business,” she said.
She recalled that her husband had built more than a business. He had also worked to keep the family and the people around him connected.
Taking inspiration from his approach, she sought to maintain those relationships while supporting her sons as they assumed greater responsibilities.
“I am very proud of my children, who have not only successfully handled the business following the path shown by Jindal Sahib but are also living together lovingly and operating their business and family together,” she said.
For Jindal, mutual trust and cooperation remain central to both family relationships and business leadership.
“In my view, love and mutual trust are the keys to success,” she added.
Her Advice to Women Entrepreneurs
Jindal believes that building a successful business requires more than ambition or financial resources. Knowledge, hard work, honesty, and patience are equally important.
She also emphasizes the role employees play in sustaining a company over time.
“Each one belongs to us. All employees are ours, like family members,” she recalled her husband saying.
She said she shares that philosophy and believes business owners should treat employees with consideration while remaining informed about their industries.
Her message to women seeking to establish themselves as entrepreneurs is straightforward: keep learning, work honestly, and remain committed to the business.
She also stresses the importance of treating people fairly, arguing that long-term success depends on trust as much as commercial performance.
Education and Healthcare at the Center of Her Philanthropy
Jindal traces her interest in philanthropy to the example set by her family and her husband.
As a child, she watched relatives help people in need. After marriage, she said, her husband’s commitment to social work strengthened that outlook.
“He used to say, ‘God has given us a lot, so we should also do something for society,’” she recalled.
Education was particularly important to him, especially the education of girls.
“He used to say, ‘If a girl studies, then two houses will prosper, and if a boy studies, then only one house,’” Jindal said.
She said the family supported schools, colleges, and hospitals near its industrial operations to improve access to education and healthcare for workers and their families.
Among the educational initiatives she highlighted were Vidya Devi Jindal Residential School, O.P. Jindal School, O.P. Jindal Global University, O.P. Jindal University in Raigarh, and O.P. Jindal Community College.
These institutions operate across different educational segments, from school education to higher education and vocational training.
Maharaja Agrasen Medical College Expands Healthcare Access
Healthcare remains another major focus of Jindal’s social work.
She has served as president of Maharaja Agrasen Medical Education and Scientific Research Society, which supports Maharaja Agrasen Medical College in Agroha, Hisar district.
The college’s official website lists a 550-bed hospital with emergency services and says the institution provides free medical services to poor and needy patients from Haryana and adjoining states. Its stated mission includes expanding access to healthcare, medical education, and research.
Jindal said patients from Punjab and Rajasthan also travel to the institution for treatment. She also recalled the work undertaken by its team during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“I believe that only a healthy and educated person can contribute to nation building,” she said.
The medical institution’s work reflects a broader approach to philanthropy that connects healthcare provision with professional training and the development of medical services in a region where access to such facilities is important.
The Jindal Family’s Business Legacy in 2026
The family’s industrial legacy continues to develop through businesses with distinct leadership teams and operations.
Jindal Steel, formerly Jindal Steel & Power, is chaired by Savitri Jindal’s son Naveen Jindal. The company reported gross revenue of ₹62,412 crore for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, according to its latest published corporate figures. Its operations include steelmaking and related industrial activities.
Jindal Stainless, another separate company associated with the wider O.P. Jindal Group, reported consolidated revenue of ₹42,955 crore for FY2025-26, an increase of 9.3% from the previous year. Its consolidated profit after tax rose 27.4% to ₹3,185 crore, according to its May 2026 results announcement.
These figures illustrate the scale of the industrial businesses that have grown from the family’s entrepreneurial legacy. They are reported separately and should not be interpreted as the consolidated revenue of the entire Jindal family or group.
For Savitri Jindal, however, the significance of the family’s success extends beyond financial results. Her public message continues to emphasize the responsibilities that accompany business growth, including creating employment, supporting education, and improving access to healthcare.
A Leadership Role Beyond Business
Jindal has also held public office in Haryana. The official profile published by Maharaja Agrasen Medical College describes her as a two-time MLA from Hisar and a former cabinet minister in the state government. It also records her association with the medical education society before she became its president in 2019.
Her career has therefore combined family business responsibilities, political service, and philanthropic work. While these roles differ in their day-to-day demands, she has consistently highlighted the importance of education, health, and support for communities.
The original AsiaOne Magazine interview also described her as chancellor of Jain Vishva Bharati in Ladnun, Rajasthan. However, the institute’s current official website lists Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal as its chancellor, so that earlier designation should not be presented as her current position.
Her Message to AsiaOne Magazine
Asked about AsiaOne Magazine’s “Greatest Brands and Leaders Asia GCC” series, Jindal congratulated the publication’s leadership and team for highlighting business leaders and their contributions to society.
She thanked the magazine for giving her an opportunity to connect with a wider audience and expressed hope that such interactions would offer opportunities to learn from others.
Her message was to continue journalism that contributes positively to people’s lives.
“Keep doing positive journalism like this, which changes the lifestyle of people and makes them happy, healthy, and prosperous,” she said.
For Jindal, the lasting measure of leadership lies not only in the businesses people build but also in the opportunities they create for others. Her account of family life, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy presents a view of success in which commercial achievement and social responsibility are closely connected.
