Under the leadership of Jitendra Mohan, the company has grown from a startup into one of the semiconductor industry’s fastest-rising AI infrastructure businesses, helping power the next generation of cloud computing and large-scale AI systems.
Spotting a Hidden Opportunity in AI
Jitendra Mohan co-founded Astera Labs in 2017 alongside Sanjay Gajendra and Casey Morrison, after the three engineers had worked together at Texas Instruments.
Rather than designing AI processors themselves, they focused on a less crowded but increasingly critical layer of the technology stack: semiconductor connectivity.
As AI models became larger and data centres packed thousands of processors into a single cluster, moving data efficiently between CPUs, GPUs, memory, and accelerators became just as important as computing power itself.

The company’s products include intelligent connectivity solutions such as PCIe, CXL, and Ethernet technologies that help data travel faster and more reliably across modern AI servers.
Its hardware and software are designed to improve communication between processors, memory, storage, and networking equipment, enabling cloud providers to build larger and more efficient AI infrastructure.
As demand for generative AI accelerated, the need for these technologies grew alongside it.
Rather than competing with chipmakers, Astera Labs positioned itself as an essential partner within the broader AI ecosystem.
A Strong Nasdaq Debut
Astera Labs went public on the Nasdaq in March 2024 under the ticker ALAB, becoming one of the year’s most closely watched semiconductor listings.
The company raised approximately $712 million through its initial public offering, with shares debuting above the IPO price and reflecting strong investor interest in AI infrastructure businesses.
For the 2024 financial year, Astera Labs reported revenue of approximately $396 million, driven by growing demand from hyperscale cloud providers and AI system manufacturers.
Its market valuation climbed into the multi-billion-dollar range following its public listing, placing the company among the emerging leaders benefiting from the global AI investment cycle.
Powering the AI Supply Chain
While companies like Nvidia attract attention for designing AI chips, those processors depend on an entire ecosystem of specialised technologies to operate efficiently.
Astera Labs provides part of that foundation by enabling faster communication inside AI servers and high-performance computing systems.
As cloud companies continue investing billions of dollars in AI infrastructure, demand for advanced semiconductor connectivity is expected to remain a critical part of the industry’s growth.
Building for the Next Wave of Computing
Jitendra Mohan’s journey reflects how some of the biggest opportunities in technology lie beneath the surface.
Instead of competing in crowded consumer markets, Astera Labs focused on solving a highly technical problem that has become increasingly important as AI systems grow in size and complexity.
By identifying that opportunity early, Mohan and his co-founders built a company that now sits at the centre of one of the world’s fastest-growing technology markets, demonstrating that the future of AI depends not only on powerful chips but also on the infrastructure connecting them.
