Pirojsha Godrej took charge on August 14, succeeding Nadir Godrej as Executive Chairperson of Godrej Industries and Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group.
Pirojsha Godrej has taken charge as Executive Chairperson of Godrej Industries and Chairperson of the Godrej Industries Group, succeeding Nadir Godrej.
Godrej Industries has appointed Pirojsha as Whole-Time Director, designated Executive Chairperson, for a five-year term ending August 13, 2031, subject to shareholder approval.
The leadership transition was planned several months ago. Here are five things to know about Pirojsha Godrej and the change at the top.
1. The succession was announced months ago
Pirojsha was named Chairperson-Designate of Godrej Industries and the Godrej Industries Group on April 13, 2026.
The board had announced that he would formally take over from August 14 following Nadir Godrej’s retirement as Chairman and Managing Director.
Pirojsha said the new role was both a responsibility and a privilege, adding that the focus would be on building on the group’s legacy while remaining grounded in its values.
2. He built Godrej Properties into a major real estate business
Pirojsha played a central role in the expansion of Godrej Properties, where he led the company through a period of rapid growth.
The company became India’s largest real estate developer by sales in FY21, a position it continues to hold.
He also founded Godrej Capital and Godrej Ventures and currently serves as Chairperson of Godrej Properties, Godrej Capital and Godrej Ventures.
3. Godrej Industries has delivered strong growth
Under the group’s recent leadership, Godrej Industries has recorded more than 20% compounded annual growth in sales and net profits over the past five years.
The group had a market capitalisation of more than $20 billion as of April 2026.
Its companies also received top global rankings in their respective categories in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices 2025.
4. Other leadership changes are also taking place
The transition extends beyond Pirojsha’s appointment.
Burjis Godrej, Nadir Godrej’s son, will become Chairperson of Godrej Agrovet and join the Godrej Industries board as a non-executive director.
Meanwhile, Vishal Sharma, CEO of Godrej Chemicals, has been appointed Chairperson of Astec LifeSciences. Arijit Mukherjee, currently COO of Astec, will become Executive Director.
These changes mark a broader shift in leadership across several Godrej businesses.
5. Pirojsha’s career began outside the family business
Before joining Godrej, Pirojsha gained experience in public service.
He interned at the New York Senate office of Hillary Clinton and later worked as an additional private secretary to the Minister of State for External Affairs in New Delhi.
He joined Godrej Properties in 2004 and returned to the company in 2008 after completing his MBA from Columbia Business School.
A new chapter for Godrej Industries
Pirojsha’s appointment marks a significant generational transition for the group.
Nadir Godrej, who has spent several decades with Godrej Industries, said he was confident that the group would continue to grow under the next generation of leadership while remaining anchored in its values.
For Pirojsha, the immediate task is to build on that foundation while guiding the group through its next phase of growth.
