Rajpal Yadav Surrenders After Court Refuses More Time.
Rajpal Yadav surrendered before Tihar Jail authorities in Delhi on Thursday after the Delhi High Court declined to extend his deadline in a cheque-bounce case, and he makes a emotional statement, ‘mere pass paise nahi.’
A jail source confirmed that Yadav surrendered at 4 pm. Authorities will now proceed according to standard operating procedure.
The high court had earlier directed Yadav to surrender by 4 pm on Wednesday. On the same day, the court rejected his request for additional time.
Court Refuses Extension Despite Payment Offer
Yadav’s counsel informed the court that the actor had arranged ₹50 lakh and sought one more week to complete payment. The request followed a February 2 order directing him to surrender.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected the plea. The court stated that it could not create special circumstances for any individual based on background or profession.
The order emphasised that leniency cannot continue indefinitely, particularly when non-compliance persists.
Origin of the Case
The case arose from a complaint filed by Murali Projects Pvt Ltd against Yadav and his wife. The company alleged that several cheques issued by the couple were dishonoured and that outstanding dues remained unpaid.
In 2018, a Delhi magistrate’s court convicted the couple in the cheque-bounce cases and sentenced Yadav to six months in prison. A sessions court upheld the conviction in 2019. The couple then approached the Delhi High Court.
Temporary Relief and Final Direction
In June 2024, the high court temporarily suspended proceedings and encouraged Yadav to pursue a settlement with the company through concrete steps.
However, on February 2, the court noted repeated violations and failure to repay the amount. It then directed Yadav to surrender.
With the latest order rejecting his extension plea, the actor has now complied with the surrender directive. The legal process will continue in accordance with the conviction already upheld by the lower courts.
