A speeding Lamborghini Revuelto rammed into pedestrians on VIP Road in Kanpur’s Gwaltoli area on Sunday afternoon, injuring six people. Police have registered an FIR against an unidentified driver. No arrests have been made so far.

Investigators are examining the role of Shivam Mishra, son of K. K. Mishra, owner of Banshidhar Exports Pvt Ltd. The family has been under scrutiny by the Income Tax Department since March 2024.

The black Lamborghini, bearing Delhi registration DL 11 CF 4018, has been seized and sent for mechanical inspection.

Medical Tests Ordered Amid Epilepsy Claim

Police confirmed that Shivam Mishra will undergo medical tests to determine whether he suffers from epilepsy or another medical condition that may have contributed to the crash.

Speculation spread on Monday over possible intoxication. The family stated that he has epilepsy. Commissioner of Police Raghubir Lal said further action will depend on medical findings.

He added that if tests reveal medical unfitness to drive, authorities will examine how a driving licence was issued and whether Regional Transport Office officials violated norms.

Eyewitness Accounts and Police Action

The accident occurred around 3.15 pm in a crowded area. Eyewitnesses said the car first struck an autorickshaw, then crashed into a stationary motorcycle, throwing its rider nearly 10 feet. The vehicle dragged the motorcycle before hitting an electric pole and stopping.

Angry locals surrounded the car. Witnesses alleged that private bouncers accompanying the accused tried to push back the crowd, escalating tensions. Police rescued the driver and moved both him and the injured to a private hospital.

An FIR was registered under charges of rash and negligent driving and causing hurt, based on a complaint by Taufiq, one of the injured. He suffered serious leg injuries. Others sustained fractures and bruises and have since been discharged.

Station House Officer Santosh Gaur was removed from his post for failing to follow due procedure after the crash. The lapse was termed negligence by the police commissioner.

CCTV Review and Surveillance

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby shops, traffic intersections, and residential buildings to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the vehicle’s speed.

Police stated that Mishra remains under close watch to prevent any attempt to evade the investigation. Authorities have directed officers to complete the probe within the stipulated time and file a chargesheet promptly.

Background and Pattern of High-End Car Accidents

Income Tax officials earlier uncovered luxury vehicles and nearly ₹4.5 crore in cash during searches at properties linked to the Mishra family. Notably, authorities seized high-end cars including a Rolls-Royce Phantom, a McLaren, a Porsche, and the Lamborghini involved in Sunday’s crash. Investigators also found that several of the vehicles reportedly carried the number 4018.

Meanwhile, the Kanpur incident adds to a growing list of high-profile luxury car crashes. In May 2024, a speeding Porsche allegedly driven by a minor hit a motorcycle in Pune, killing two IT professionals. Subsequently, in July last year, an allegedly drunk Audi driver ran over five people sleeping on a Delhi footpath. Earlier this year in March, a red Lamborghini injured two labourers in Noida. Even before that, in 2023, a Jaguar allegedly driven by a businessman’s son rammed into a crowd on Kanpur’s ISKCON Bridge, leaving nine dead.

Now, the Kanpur Lamborghini crash shifts the spotlight to medical findings, procedural compliance, and whether any influence affected the handling of the case.
