Indian Government Says No Fuel Shortage, No Panic Buying

The Government of India has confirmed that there is no shortage of fuel across the country despite escalating tensions in West Asia and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Authorities stated that petrol pumps, LPG distribution, and broader energy infrastructure continue to function normally, even as isolated instances of panic buying were reported in some regions.

Fuel Supply Remains Strong

Officials emphasized that India’s refineries are operating at high capacity, supported by adequate crude reserves.

Petrol, diesel, and LPG supplies remain stable nationwide, with no systemic disruption reported. Temporary spikes in demand were attributed to misinformation rather than actual shortages.

The government reiterated that supply chains are intact and urged citizens to rely only on verified information.

LPG and PNG Expansion to Ease Pressure

To manage demand efficiently, authorities have increased LPG allocations and accelerated the shift toward piped natural gas.

More than 37,000 small LPG cylinders were sold in a single day, primarily targeting vulnerable groups such as migrant workers.

At the same time, 11,089 new PNG connections were added across 110 areas, reflecting a push toward more stable and long-term energy solutions.

Priority allocations have also been extended to commercial users, including restaurants, hotels, and community kitchens, ensuring continuity in essential services.

Crackdown on Hoarding and Black Marketing

The government has intensified enforcement under the Essential Commodities Act to prevent misuse of supply concerns.

More than 2,600 raids have been conducted across states, leading to the seizure of over 450 LPG cylinders.

Authorities have registered over 680 FIRs and arrested nearly 200 individuals in connection with hoarding and black market activities.

Oil marketing companies have also carried out inspections at more than 1,700 fuel stations and LPG distribution points to ensure compliance and smooth operations.

Transport and Maritime Operations Continue Normally

India’s logistics and maritime systems remain operational despite regional tensions.

Port activity across major coastal regions continues without disruption, and shipping movements are being closely monitored.

Around 20 Indian-flagged vessels with 540 seafarers remain in the western Persian Gulf, all reported safe.

A dedicated control system has been handling thousands of queries, reflecting active monitoring and coordination.

Evacuation Efforts Gain Momentum

Air travel connectivity from West Asia is gradually improving.

Since February 28, approximately 4.5 lakh Indian citizens have returned home through a mix of scheduled and special flights.

Alternative travel routes have been activated where direct access remains restricted, ensuring continued evacuation support.

Advisory Against Panic Buying

The government has issued a clear advisory urging citizens to avoid panic buying of fuel and LPG.

Officials stressed that hoarding disrupts distribution systems and creates unnecessary pressure on supply chains that are otherwise functioning normally.

Citizens have been encouraged to adopt responsible consumption practices, use digital booking systems for LPG, and explore alternatives such as PNG and electric cooking solutions.

Coordinated Response to Maintain Stability

The current situation reflects a coordinated response between central and state authorities aimed at maintaining energy security and public confidence.

Daily monitoring, enforcement measures, and communication efforts are being used to counter misinformation and ensure smooth supply.

Despite global uncertainties, India’s energy system continues to operate with stability, supported by infrastructure readiness and policy intervention.
